EditorÕs Introductory Note:

HereÕs a heat wave to announce the beginning of summer a bit early! Hope youÕre all managing to stay (relatively) cool.

A couple of neighborhood events are coming up soon, with more to follow later in the summer, including our fabulous National Night Out Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 6 (mark your calendars now). Meanwhile, please consider helping us give our neighborhood park a little TLC with the work party taking place on June 22  (see item 2) and/or attending a garden social this coming Sunday (see item 1).

1. Neighborhood Soup & Salad Garden Social for Halcyon Thrive, Sun. 6/16, 6-8 p.m.

EditorÕs note: Halcyon Thrive is a relatively new neighborhood initiative for those who wish to take the next step in mutual community support. Halcyon Thrive offers a ÒConversationsÓ program in peopleÕs homes, where neighbors share knowledge and experience, as well as occasional social gatherings – all of which help us to get to know one another better. WeÕre also exploring ways to support one another when simple needs arise, which could include Òaging in place,Ó or multigenerational support of other kinds. The gathering hosted by John and Khoi on Sunday is open to all neighbors (some Halcyon Thrive events are promoted to members only). If youÕre interested in joining the Halcyon Thrive Google group, where we plan and announce Thrive events, please email your contact information, including email and phone, to halcyonthrive@gmail.com.

Garden Social

Sunday, June 16, 6-8 p.m.

2329 Webster Street

John Steere and Khoi Le are hosting a Halcyon Thrive Soup Social on Sunday, June 16, from 6 to 8 pm at Webster Haven, 2329 Webster Street (2nd house west of Whole Foods Market). Come and connect with your neighbors on FatherÕs Day. Bring something to share with others: soup or salad, a friend, and stories. And with summer arriving, we will be enjoying one anotherÕs company in the back garden.

John and Khoi will have a pot of soup and big bowl of salad available. We invite you to bring your own contribution of one of these courses, and to stay for as long or as little as you wish. Looking forward to seeing you on FatherÕs Day at Webster Haven!

3. Whole Foods Market News: Next Drop-in Progress Meeting Fri., 6/14, 8:15-9:00 a.m.

EditorÕs note: News from Whole Foods Market, courtesy of Store Team Leader Hayden Richards, follows. Whole Foods Market generously provides supportive food and beverage donations to our work parties, National Night Out Ice Cream Social, and key HNA CERT events during the year. We greatly appreciate the partnership in taking good care of the neighborhood we share!

Next Drop-in Progress Meeting, Friday, June 14, 2019, 8:15-9:00 a.m.

Whole Foods Market (check in at Customer Service)

These meetings are held at the front of the store or outside, and the purpose is to share our plans for ongoing changes in the store, street litter control, and progress on any of the ongoing issues we discuss with HNA reps and nearby neighbors. The Store Team Leader is usually present, and anyone is welcome to join us. Of course there will be complimentary coffee or tea. Our goal is to follow up immediately on any issues that we hear about, and to hear how the store can be a better neighbor. As always, if there are ever any urgent issues, please call the store at 510-649-1333 and ask for the shift manager on duty. We have new shift leaders being trained, so please send an email to the emails below so we can follow up appropriately. Always feel free to swing by too, if youÕd like to have a word with us.
